We offer you a mountain cycling tour through the forests and mountains of the most colorful place in Armenia. The road passes through dense forests, mountains and cultural monuments of Dilijan National Park. The area is perfect for cycling, as there are hiking trails and dirt roads in forests. Therefore, cycling here will not be difficult for a person even with minimal experience.

Route description

In the morning we will leave Yerevan and head towards Dilijan. We will go to the Semyonovka village. The village is located on the top of the mountain, from where you can see beautiful Lake Sevan from an unusual angle. Here we will sit on our bicycles and start our mountain cycling tour. Through the forest paths we will reach the mountain plateau, where we will find the ruins of the abandoned village Tchermakavan and the church “Spitak eghtsi”. Some parts of the road to this place will be uphill, but after that only downhill awaits us, so we will enjoy the ride and catch adrenaline to the fullest.

The next attraction will be the forest lake Gosh. This lake has different unique colors at every time of the year and it always looks like in a fairy tale. From here we will ride to the Gosh village, have a rest, drink tea or coffee, load our bicycles into the car and head to Dilijan.

If desired, the group can stay here for dinner. In Dilijan there are many authentic restaurants. If there is time, we can walk around the city, learn its history. In the end we will return to Yerevan.

Many people, even from Armenia, have never seen the whole Lake Sevan, from all sides. During this tour we’ll give you an opportunity to discover Sevan from all sides, meet the dawn and purple-red sunset on the shore of the lake. Cycling tour around Lake Sevan perfectly combines outdoor activities with visiting the historical and cultural monuments of Armenia.

Cycling tour around Lake Sevan

This is a unique program that will not be offered anywhere else. A car will accompany us the whole way in case of a bicycle breakdown or simply if someone gets too tired.

Day one

In the morning, a car will bring us with our bicycles from Yerevan to Lake Sevan.

Tea house on the shore of Lake Sevan

On the first day we will ride east. Our ride will be about 100 km to Vardenis. On the right side, volcanoes of Geghama Mountains will accompany us. On our way we will visit a medieval fortress Berdkunk, Ayravank monastery and Noratus village, where a field with about 200 khachkars (cross stones) is situated. Overnight will be in a comfortable guest house.

Day two

After a homemade breakfast, we will continue our journey to the north and north-west. We’ll ride a little more that day – 110 km, but on this side there are mostly flat roads and descents. And the car will always accompany us.

On the way we will stop at the beach, where we will relax, swim and continue our ride. We’ll finish our tour at the same point from where we have started it and thus complete our circle. We will change, load the bikes in a car and return to Yerevan.

One Day Cycling Tour from Garni to Lanjazat Village

Early in the morning we will get started by driving to Garni. The bicycles will be transported by car. Our first stop will be Charents Arch. From there we can enjoy the most beautiful view of Mount Ararat. From Charents Arch we will begin cycling to Garni. First, we will cycle by the main road and then will continue by a dirt road. The Temple of Garni is located in the village of Garni in Kotayk Province, Armenia. The temple used to be pagan and was dedicated to the Armenian god of sun Mihr. Built in the middle of the 1st century AD, the Temple of Garni remarkably survived the destruction of pagan temples. After admiring the temple we will ride down the Azat gorge and see the Symphony of Stones.

Cycling Tour from Garni to Lanjazat Village

The monument consists of huge paradoxically symmetric hexagon and pentagon basalt columns (nearly 50 meters high). These stones hanging against the gravity resemble an organ, which explains why it is also referred to as “Basalt Organ Pipes”. The river of Azat flows through the gorge, thus peppering the mesmerizing beauty of stones with burble.

We will continue our cycling tour by the Symphony of Stones and climb the plateau. There is an abandoned road that will lead us to Lanjazat village. On our way we will see Yeranos Mountains and the Azat reservoir. Yeranos mountain range is one of the south-western branches of Geghama mountains. It stretches along the left bank of the river Azat to Ararat plateau. The majestic view of Azat reservoir with Yeranos mountains in the background will accompany us the whole way. The tour will end in Lanjazat village, but if you still feel energized you are free to continue cycling.

Our one day cycling tour to Etchmiadzin will help you to feel the spirit of Armenian architecture and get acquainted with the cultural heritage. This trail is for those who prefer cycling on the straight roads without any difficulties. Our first stop will be in the city of Ashtarak which is one of the oldest cities of Armenia a is famous for its historical and cultural monuments. After we will ride to Oshakan village which is the place where Mesrop Mashtots, the creator of Armenian alphabet, is buried. We will continue pedalling to the city of Vagharshapat. Here we will see the oldest church built in IV century Holy Etchmiadzin.

According to the legend, Gregory the Illuminator, who was preaching Christianity in Armenia, had a dream of Jesus Christ coming down from heaven with a hammer in his hand and hitting on the place, where a pagan temple was located. Gregory the Illuminator told his dream to king Tiridates, and he ordered to replace the temple with a church and called it Etchmiadzin (And begotten came down). For more than 17 centuries, the Holy Etchmiadzin has been and still is the center of Armenian religion, culture, sciences, theology and spirituality.

Not far from Etchmiadzin we can see another medieval architectural monument Zvartnots Cathedral. Though we can’t see the cathedral standing there, but only the ruins of it, but we can feel there the spirit of Armenian architecture. The monuments both are included in the list of UNESCO’s tangible cultural heritage.

Early in the morning we will get started from Yerevan with bicycles. During our one day cycling tour to Khor Virap we will pass through Ararat valley. Most Armenians boast their ancestry from this part of the Armenian Highland, and it continues to be the most inhabited part of the Armenian Highland by Armenians. The symbol of Armenia, Mount Ararat, will accompany us during our tour. And from the territory of Khor virap monastery you will enjoy the most magnificent view of Mount Ararat. This monastery is famous not only for its spectacular views of Mount Ararat, but also for its historical significance. This was where the patron saint of Armenia, St. Gregory the Illuminator, was thrown into a pit and imprisoned for 13 years by the king Tiridates III.

Khor Virap literally means a “deep pit”. You will have the opportunity to descend the pit and feel what sufferings Gregory experienced centuries ago. You will also learn why this place was considered sacred and why the Church was later built on that place.

The whole trail is a lowland and there aren’t many ups and downs. So there is no significant change in relative altitude.

Early in the morning we will head from Yerevan to Tsovagyugh. The bicycles will be transported by the car till the village. From Tsovagyugh we will start our ride along Areguni mountains.

We will get on the saddle and ride to the village Drakhtik by a dirt road. Passing by the mountain ridge we’ll enjoy the breathtaking views of lake Sevan on one side and Dilijan forests on the other. After, if you wish, we can continue the ride along the shore of Sevan and even go swimming in the lake.

At the end of the day we will put the bikes in the car and return to Yerevan.
