The Pambak Mountains are one of the largest mountain ranges in Armenia and the highest peak is Mount Tezh (3,101 m), which stands in the center of the range. Among the other well-known summits are Mount Ampasar (3,053 m), Mount Khaghkhagh (3,044 m), Mount Gomasar (2,885 m), Mount Pahakasar (2,891 m), <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.armgeo.am\/en\/kamar-mount\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mount Kamar<\/a><\/span> (2,738 m), Mount Tsilkar (2,558 m) and <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.armgeo.am\/en\/harsnaqar-mount\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mount Harsnakar<\/a><\/span> (2,483 m). <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.armgeo.am\/en\/tsakhkunyats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mount Tsaghkunyats<\/a><\/span> and Mount Arjanots form the main branches of the mountain range.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18572\" style=\"width: 1210px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.armgeo.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4545.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18572\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18572\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.armgeo.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4545.jpg?resize=1200%2C800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Mount Tezh\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.armgeo.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4545.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.armgeo.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4545.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.armgeo.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4545.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.armgeo.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4545.jpg?resize=1030%2C687&amp;ssl=1 1030w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.armgeo.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4545.jpg?resize=705%2C470&amp;ssl=1 705w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.armgeo.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_4545.jpg?resize=450%2C300&amp;ssl=1 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-18572\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mount Tezh<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mountain range has an irregular shape, with steep slopes and short, 5-6 km ridges extending off it on the northern side. On the southern side, however, it has gentler slopes, and longer ridges of up to 12 km. Most of the range is formed from volcanic and sedimentary subsurface rock. The sedimentary subsurface of the range\u2019s western part is comprised of limestone, sandstone and marlstone, while granite and diorite are more common in the central area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for plant cover, the central and eastern slopes of the Pambak Range, which descend into the Pambak Valley, are completely wooded, while the western part of the range, which heads toward the Spitak Concavity, is covered with mountain steppe. Several tributaries of the Pambak River begin on these slopes (Pambijur, Spitak, Paytajur and Tsaghkaru).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The southern slopes are covered with steppe vegetation, whereas the western slopes are quite steep and submerged under lava from the volcanic Mount Geghanist. As a result, black soil has formed on the lava. In the central part of the range, the terrain is mostly dry steppe and as a result, it is extremely jagged. The Ginedzor, Tchartchakis, Alvar, Tezh, Tsaghkamarg and several other rivulets begin here.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Mount Tezh<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mount Tezh is located on the border between the Lori and Kotayk provinces, 7 km southwest of Margahovit village. The right tributary (Aghstev) of the Kura River begins on the western slope of Mount Tezh, and the right tributary (Tezh) of the Gomaget River begins on the northern slope.
