Armenia is known for being a mountainous country. It is a perfect country for mountain tourism and trekking. But the summits of our mountains, in truth, are not the highest, and they do not have any difficulty grade in mountaineering. Our highest peak is Northern Aragats – 4090 meters above sea level. But we do not give up. We found 7 reasons of the coolness of Mount Aragats, and why you should choose this mountain.<\/p>\n

So, we will try to convince you:<\/p>\n

1. Close to the capital<\/h3>\n

From Yerevan you will need just 1.5 hour to get there by car. Armenia is a small country, so in this case it is very convenient. For climbing Aragats we don’t need to plan a long vacation.<\/p>\n

Climbing Aragats is a weekend plan. Hikers and mountaineers from Armenia train there every weekend. That’s why almost all year round we have 4000 meters acclimatization. Thanks to this, it’s easier to climb Kazbek and Elbrus.<\/p>\n

2. Trails without technical elements<\/h3>\n

Aragats has 4 peaks, 3 of them have hiking trails without technical elements. So people of any physical shape can handle it. The easiest is the Southern peak<\/a><\/span> (3887 meters). Then comes the Western peak (3995 m), it is no more difficult to climb there, than to the Southern peak, but here you will be at an altitude of almost 4000 meters. And the main beauty is the Northern peak (4090 m). Climbing to this peak, you will understand how you feel in this altitude and if you can handle a long walk through the mountainous terrain. This is a great place to train for climbing Ararat<\/a><\/span>, Elbrus, or Kazbek.<\/p>\n

3. Two days to the top<\/h3>\n

You can climb the highest Northern peak<\/a><\/span> just in two days. On your way you will not see glaciers or rocky sections. So, anyone can take this challenge.<\/p>\n

4. Gravity hill<\/h3>\n

Although gravity hill<\/a><\/span> in Mount Aragats is not really connected to the ascent, it doesn’t make it less interesting. You’ll find out when you arrive.<\/p>\n

5. Crater<\/h3>\n

The crater is a separate attraction. Going down the crater, you will feel like you’re in Mars or Venus. The reliefs, the colors, the rocks there look like nothing else.<\/p>\n

6. Amberd<\/h3>\n

The medieval fortress “Amberd”. If you are not a big fan of mountains and hikes, and if you want to mix hiking and cultural tours, then Aragats is perfect for you. Here you can visit the Amberd fortress, see many Vishaps and learn legends about them.<\/p>\n

7. Alone with nature<\/h3>\n

Mount Aragats is not as crowded as the mountains in the Caucasus or in the Alps. Here you will have time to stay alone with the spirit of the mountain, talk to it and relax from the bustle of the city.<\/p>\n
