Climbing Mount Elbrus

In 2024, we’ll climb the highest point of Europe, Mount Elbrus (5642 m), a popular destination for mountaineers.

Mount Elbrus is a stratovolcano located in the Caucasus Mountains, on the border between Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia in Russia. It is part of the “Seven Summits,” a group of the highest mountains on each continent. 

The mountain has two peaks, the Western summit at 5 642 m and the Eastern summit at 5 621 m.

The climb to the summit of Mount Elbrus can be challenging, and it is essential to be adequately prepared and equipped for the climb. It is recommended that climbers have prior mountaineering experience and be in good physical condition.

Duration: 6 days

We’ll perform the climb from the South.

All participants must have climbing experience.

Day climbing program: 

Day 1: Yerevan – On the slopes of Elbrus

Early in the morning, we’ll move from Yerevan, we’ll pass Armenian-Georgian and Georgian-Russian borders. We’ll continue our way to the village of Terskol. 

We’ll stay in the hotel and prepare for the climb.

Day 2: Azau – Shelter 11

Early in the morning, we’ll move to Azau, and climb up to the height of 3 700 m by cable car. 

We’ll walk from there to Shelter 11 at a height of 4 100 m.

Day 3: Acclimatization day

Acclimatization is the main thing for climbing mountains like Elbrus. We’ll have a whole day for it. In the morning, we’ll walk to the Pastukhov Rock at a height of 4 700 m․ After that, we’ll walk down to Shelter 11.

Day 4: Free day

After the acclimatization day, we’ll have a free day and we’ll have time to rest and better prepare the body for the upcoming climb.

Day 5: On the top of Mount Elbrus

At night we’ll start to climb and gain 1 600 meters, walking from the height of  4 700 to the summit, on the 5 642 m.

After reaching the summit, we’ll descend to Shelter 11, and then to Azau.

Overnight in the hotel.

Day 6: Yerevan

After breakfast, we’ll move to Yerevan.
