Climbing Mount Ara

Mount Ara is an extinct volcano located not far from Yerevan, between the rivers Qasagh and Hrazdan. The height of the mountain is 2605 meters. The name of mountain is connected with the name of an Armenian king Ara the Beautiful, who according to legend was killed on the slopes of the mountain and is buried on its top.

Mount Ara is associated with the legend about Ara the Beautiful and the Assyrian queen Semiramis. Ara the Beautiful rejected the Assyrian crown, rejected the love of Semiramis and was soon killed in a battle near this mountain. That is why the mountain is named Ara.

 

In the evening we will return to Yerevan.
