Mount Kapanu

Mount Kapanu

Mount Kapanu is one of the highest summits of Tsaghkunyats mountains. It is located north-east from Lusagyugh village in Aragatsotn region. On the slopes of a mountain there is a sanctuary called Tukh Manuk. Near the territory of the sanctuary there is a healing water source, which locals call a “light giving source”. They either drink it, wash their eyes with its water, or take away with them. From the sanctuary one can enjoy a beautiful view of Mount Aragats.

Near the Lusagyugh village there is another sacred place, which locals call monastery of Mkhey. The monastery dates back to the 4th century. There is a version that this monastery used to be pagan and later only turned into a Christian one and served as a caravanserai. Many travelers stopped there to have some rest and recover from their journey.

Hiking to Mount Kapanu

1.5 km north-east from the village there is a fortress “Aver Berd”. From the cuneiform inscription of King Argishti we can guess that this fortress is rather old. It was destroyed many times during earthquakes and battles, and because of that all the tunnels and underground passes in the fortress have been blocked with stones.

From the top of mount Kapanu one can admire a beautiful views of Aragats, Ara, also Geghama and Tsaghkunyats mountain ranges. To the south-west from Kapanu mount Tchanchik is located.

Forests cover more than 5000 miles. The major trees are maple, oak, birch and pine parks. You can also meet wild apple and pear trees here.
