The Paytapar Mountain Range is located in Tavush Province and forms the northern branch of the Miapor Mountains. The Range begins at the peak of Mount Shunkar and moves north-eastwards towards the confluence of the Aghstev and Urtjur rivers. The western and eastern slopes of the range are forested.

Mount Shunkar is located 4.5 km to the north of Aghavnavank village in Tavush Province (at the intersection of the Miapor and Paitapar mountain ranges). The summit consists of a very distinct cliff.
