Two-Day Tour around Lake Sevan

Day 1: Arch of Charents, Garni, Symphony of Stones, Sevanavank Monastery, Horse Riding

Starting our tour from the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, we will drive towards the famous Arch of Charents, which will be our first stop. From this place we can enjoy a fascinating view of Mount Ararat if the weather is clear.

Then we will continue the tour in the village of Garni, where we are going to see the only surviving pagan temple in Armenia. You can walk in the temple area, enjoying its beautiful architecture and the atmosphere of mysticism surrounding it.

Afterwards we will go down to the Azat River Gorge to see a unique natural monument called Symphony of Stones.

The next stop will be at Lake Sevan. Located at an altitude of 1,900 metres, it is surrounded by mountains, being also known as the pearl of the Armenian mountains. We will also visit the famous monastery of Sevanavank situated on a peninsula which was once an island.

After this, we will continue to the village of Drakhtik, where you can have horse riding, enjoying the magnificent scenery and fresh air.

Day 2: Makenis (Makenyats) Monastery, the Cross-Stones of Noratus, Mikayelyan Family Farm, Hayravank Monastery

In the morning we will continue our two-day programme and will drive to the monastery of Makenis, the history of which goes back to the depth of centuries. The earliest historical records mentioning it trace back to the 7th century, describing it not only as a holy place of worship but also as a centre of education.

In the early Middle Ages, the monastery was home to prominent religious and public figures of Armenia.

The next stop will be in the cemetery of Noratus․ The art of cross-stones is one of the most typical manifestations of medieval Armenian culture, the cemetery of Noratus being a true museum of cross-stones in the open air. Hundreds of cross-stones are preserved here, the works of the 12th to 14th centuries being particularly noteworthy.

In this cemetery which shows the chronological development of the cross-stone art you will feel an atmosphere of the past. The art of Armenian cross-stones has been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The region of Gegharkunik is well-known for its rich cuisine, and Mikayelyan Family Farm is noted for its natural, incredibly delicious and aromatic cheeses.
